QUILTING IS SO EASY TO LEARN

Why should you learn to Quilt?

Quilting is a hobby that can provide you with:

  • A sense of accomplishment
  • Something to provide warmth, like a bed or lap quilt
  • Something decorative for your home, like a wall hanging
  • Something utilitarian, like pot holders and place mats
  • A way to keep your hands out of the snack bowl
  • A way to take advantage of all those quilting magazines on sale at the newsstands

How easy is it?

Quilting is easy to learn - as long as you start with little quilts!

If you are going to make a bed quilt as your first quilting project, you may experience significant frustration, due to the time required to make one.

There are three basic building blocks in learning to Quilt.

  • The quilt sandwich - how to sew the top, batting, and backing together, and put a nice binding around the edges to finish it off.
  • Patchwork - creating the top of the quilt by cutting fabric into small pieces (triangles, squares, rectangles, and others), and sewing these pieces together to make a bigger piece of fabric.
  • Applique - creating the top of the quilt by cutting fabric into small shapes and sewing (applying) them to a base fabric.

How much time does it take to learn these skills?

The Crocus Needle Art School offers 3-hour private classes, each of which features just one aspect of quilting. You will be making complete projects (little quilts) during these classes.
